چکیده

Background: Amblyopia is a reduction in visual acuity that often involves reduction in visual skills such as ocular motility and accommodation. Various treatment modalities for amblyopia include spectacle correction, patching, atropine, and optometric vision therapy (OVT). Clinically, OVT often reduces the severity of amblyopia. There is also considerable anecdotal evidence that improvement in amblyopia and its related visual deficiencies can be achieved at almost any age. Case Report: A nine-year-old Caucasian male was referred by his primary care optometrist for amblyopia treatment. Previous treatment included full-time prescription lenses and part-time direct patching for 31⁄2 years. Our evaluation found deep amblyopia secondary to anisometropia, micro-esotropia, and eccentric fixation. A visual evoked potential (VEP) was obtained to estimate his potential visual acuity and to rule out optic pathway defect. The SHAW lens, officebased vision therapy, home-based syntonics, and home-based Amblyopia iNet and Perceptual Visual Tracking programs were prescribed, and the patient continues to show good progress. Conclusion: A multi-modality treatment approach provided a good functional outcome for this patient with deep amblyopia secondary to constant esotropia and anisometropia. The multi-modality treatment for this patient included spectacle lenses, as well as OVT and home-based vision therapy, for optimal results.

Comparison of the Wave Amplitude of Visually Evoked Potential in Amblyopic Eyes between Patients with Esotropia and Anisometropia and a Normal Group

Background: We compared the wave amplitude of visually evoked potential (VEP) between patients with esotropic and anisometropic amblyopic eyes and a normal group. Methods: The wave amplitude of VEP was documented in 2 groups of persons with amblyopia (15 with esotropia and 28 with anisometropia) and 1 group of individuals with normal visual acuity (n, 15). The amplitude of P100 was recorded mono...

Treating the Trinity of Infantile Vision Development: Infantile Esotropia, Amblyopia, Anisometropia

The optometric literature has begun to emphasize pediatric vision and vision development with the advent and prominence of the InfantSEETM program and recently published research articles on amblyopia, strabismus, emmetropization and the development of refractive errors. There are three conditions with which clinicians should be familiar. These three conditions include: esotropia, high refracti...

Refraction as a basis for screening children for squint and amblyopia.

+2-00 to +2-75 dioptres of spherical hypermetropia in the more emmetropic of a pair of eyes is significantly associated with esotropia (P less than 0-001) and the presence of amblyopia (P less than 0-01). Anisometropia is not significantly associated with esotropia (P = 0-31) unless there is spherical hypermetropia of +2-00 dioptres or more in the more emmetropic eye (P less than 0-001). Hyperm...

Monocular visual outcome in untreated early onset esotropia.

The incidence of amblyopia was analysed in a group of 20 patients with early onset esotropia. These patients reached adulthood without any form of previous treatment. The incidence of amblyopia was compared in a group of 20 patients who received conventional treatment, including occlusion and early surgical alignment. Only three patients (15%) in the untreated group presented with amblyopia, co...
